Hey guys! Sorry I never use this email list that you all signed up for. To get better at that I’m at least putting it in my calendar to sit down and write a newsletter. But I also don’t want to spam so it’ll only be once every two months, just to let you know where I’ll be and whats going on with my pottery work.
Next Show
So first of all: I will be at RISD CRAFT on the 30th! It’s an outside art market with many artists who graduated from RISD showing off their work, I will have fresh mugs, and there will be food trucks, and also it’s in historic downtown Providence right before Waterfire’s 500th lighting, so plenty of things to do and see. Saturday May 30th 2026 11am-5pm Benefit Street, Providence, RI

New Glazes
Now I’ll talk about my pottery a bit!
I’m trying some glaze experiments lately, usually I only work with underglaze with a clear coat, but I wanted to branch out a bit especially after I’ve found out how well IMCO glazes work with my clay. (No crazing!) But still I usually found most combos very boring or patchy but I’ve started using AMACO flux with them and it is a game changer!
I’m obsessed with how they flow together, I’m especially pleased with blue and pink combos. For the works pictured I used different combos of IMCO’s 1101 LX Clear as usual with Niji Twilight Blue, Koke Blush, Mayco’s Blue Surf, and AMACO’s Potter's Choice Flux.

Kitties and works in progress
Kilns are tough! I have an old kiln sitter and have realized that my bar cones just don’t let it get hot enough before it shuts off, so I’ve switched to using a cone 7 bar to reach cone 6 and so far it seems much better.
Other than that I’ve been perfecting my kitty mugs like usual. Trying out different faces and ways to get different colors on them, like sponging.
Also it’s not new but I’ve been making other animals besides kitties! Before I’ve done foxes and possums but now I’ve added snow leopards to the mix. I still want to focus on kitties but I like to mix it up sometimes, Right now I’m trying to make a river otter design...It’s a work in progress.

Old kitty
This was one of the kitty mugs I sold at my first RISD craft, I can’t believe how different it looks! Sometimes I don’t realize how much I have improved, how much can a kitty mug change? Apparently quite a bit! and that’s just visually, they’ve also definitely gotten more evenly thrown, bigger & lighter at the same time, and the clay+glaze combo is much more sturdy. What a difference 3 years makes! 😸
